Small Changes Can Have a Big Impact

A new season and a new newsletter bring us out of the tough Canadian winter and into your inbox with information on the latest technologies in the packaging industry. This newsletter features pouch-filling equipment alongside case packing solutions – two technologies that can easily go hand-in-hand to provide a great advantage to our customers.

And from May 8 to May 14, we’ll be joining some of our key suppliers at interpack 2014 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Hope to see you there!

Featured Technology: Vertical Form-Fill-Seal (VFFS) with Case Packing Equipment

Entry-level VFFS technology suits a wide range of industries

SVI 2600 inside

Bosch’s entry-level SVI 2600 VFFS machine is an intermittent vertical bagger that is now available to our customers. The machine caters to the needs of small to mid-sized manufacturers who are interested in automating their packaging processes. It also gives large manufacturers a cost-effective solution for small-volume processing or for test marketing new products.

For reliable high-efficiency packaging, the SVI 2600 incorporates the same technologies employed on Bosch’s higher-end baggers including servo-driven cross-sealing units, vacuum belts and Bosch/Beckhoff controls. The intermittent motion bagger can be easily combined with existing equipment. It produces pillow, side-gusseted and block-bottom bags with rates of up to 120 bags per minute.

Our colleagues at Bosch Packaging Technology debuted the SVC 4020 at PackExpo 2013 and FachPack 2013. The SVC 4020 is the first machine in their new hygienic and flexible vertical packaging machine platform.

It is an ideal solution for packaging fresh and frozen foods in pillow bags. Additional machines in the platform will be available with pack styles that can handle a wide variety of free-flowing dry, wet and frozen food products.

Bosch engineers designed the SVC with simplicity, versatility and cleanability in mind. Their focus was on creating a hygienic design to help customers meet a wide variety of food handling regulations and maximize business opportunities.

The Bosch CCM 3100 Case Packer offers a wide format range with high flexibility

Bosch CCM 3100

The Bosch CCM 3100 Case Packer has been designed for easy incorporation with Vertical Form-Fill-Seal (VFFS) and Horizontal Form-Fill-Seal (HFFS) machines. It features a wide format range for bag and case sizes, as well as bag and case styles, to provide maximum flexibility. The range of formats enables manufacturers to select the secondary packaging best suited to their products – dependant upon bag style, shelf ready requirements and pack pattern formats.

With the capability of picking and placing up to 180 products per minute, the machine's single frame is attached to an in-feed system that can accept products from VFFS and HFFS primary packaging machines. These products can be handled individually or in groups. They are picked and placed by a two-axis robot using vacuum or gripper end-effectors, dependant upon the product characteristics.
